September 2024

Dear partners in produce,

As always, I hope this letter finds you in good spirits and good health. The 2024 potato crop is going to be a few days later than average, due to a Spring planting season full of sporadic rain that caused planting delays. The planting of the crop went late into the season because of this. However, the quality of the whole crop is looking ideal despite the late planting, and the late planted crop is still sizing up nicely.

We are looking to start our packing plant on Thursday, September 19th or Friday, September 20th. During the first couple of days we will definitely be running whites and yellows while the reds will be checked during that time for skin set. Purples will be coming along in the early part of October. We will pack all varieties fresh from the field through early to mid-November. After that our potatoes will come out of our storage system for the remainder of the packing season.

In fall of 2023 we completed construction on a new potato storage building. We were very happy with the quality of the potatoes that came out of that building in the springtime, and we’re excited to have it in our toolbelt again this year. We have planted a few more acres of white potatoes this year, and we’re planning on using this premium storage to keep the white potato availability going through December and possibly into January.

You can always check our consumer pack options and see the Nelson family story on our website at www.doublenpotatoes.com. Thank you for all the support through the 2023 crop season, and we are looking forward to starting a new harvest season with you, our wonderful customers. Call Scott Wharton to handle all your colored potato needs through the 2024 season.

Sincerely,

Ryan Schols, Chief Financial Officer
